Mousa Broch
Mousa Broch is the best preserved broch in the world. A free-standing broch built in the Iron Age from sandstone, it stands 42 feet high and measures 49 feet at the base.
The island of Mousa is an RSPB Nature Reserve, and is home to a great number of birds during the summer months. The island also plays host to many grey and common seals, and whales and dolphins can often be spotted on the boat trip to the island.
Visitor Information
The island is accessible by ferry from Leebitton, Sandwick, located in the South Mainland, about 15 miles from Lerwick. The boat trips are available from April to September. Optional guided walks on the island are also available.
