Shetland farming a century ago

With Dr Ian Tait, Curator of Collections

What was everyday life like for Shetlanders a hundred years ago? Most islanders lived on the land, growing and making the things they needed, tending livestock, and harvesting natural resources.  All the time communities worked together to get things done. This talk examines the subsistence lifestyle our ancestors knew – the life thousands of Shetlanders left behind, seeking a new start abroad.
