Shetland Museum And Archives
The new Shetland Museum is housed in an attractive purpose-built building which houses an extensive collection of exhibits illustrating Shetland’s history, economy, culture, folklore and environment. The new museum has been built alongside Hay’s Dock, the last remaining part of the old Lerwick waterfront, dating from the 1830s.
Records in the extensive archives include those of Shetland Islands Council and its local government predecessors dating back to the mid-eighteenth century.
The new Museum & Archives opened in June 2007.
