Final Fling

The Final Fling will showcase Shetland's finest musical talent.

As the skies outside dim in preparation for the Up Helly-Aa procession around the Clickimin loch, audiences inside the Clickimin Centre will be warmed by the terrific voice of Sheila Henderson whose band was described by none other than Albert Lee as “world class.” Although Shetland is famed for its fiddle heritage, when it comes to straightforward country or more challenging 'Americana' Sheila is in a class of her own.  Also confirmed to perform are firm favourites with audiences, Hom Bru, who have been playing their infectious blend of Shetland music since 1978.  With their fiery instrumentals, their blistering use of mandolin and banjo as lead instruments as well as mischievous songs like “Da Trowie Song,” Hom Bru have an instantly recognisable and loveable sound.

Fiddlers' Bid Fiddlers' Bid Magnifying Glass Headlining the Fling will be a special and rare appearance by Fiddlers’ Bid, leading exponents of Shetland’s unique musical heritage and rich fiddle tradition.

Since the creation of the band nineteen years ago, their open mindedness and desire to constantly develop has seen the band turn into an international act in every sense of the word.  They have astounded audiences all over with their expressive high-energy music, raw energy and emotive performances and will ring the perfect warning shot before the skies are set ablaze.

Also set to perform are Bryan Gear and Violet Tulloch.  Bryan Gear, a student of the late great Willie Hunter, has been entertaining audiences and inspiring players for many years. Bryan has grown to embody much of the great man himself. Indeed, it is probably the greatest accolade that many prominent Shetland musicians now recognise him as Willie's worthy successor in the field of Shetland traditional fiddle music. Accompanying Bryan is Violet Tulloch who has become internationally acclaimed for her truly individual style of piano accompaniment. Having 'backed' legendary names such as the late Tom Anderson and Aly Bain, she has also made many radio and television appearances.
